3 x TVP on INPUT 2009! Back to Index

Three TVP programs are part of the INPUT 2009 program.

The series, Londyńczycy (Londoners), the documentary film, Doskonalsi (More Perfect), and the animated series. Pacuł i Grzechu, have been qualified for the International INPUT Conference to be held May 10-15 in Warsaw.

For the first time in the 30-year history of INPUT and 20 years after the Round Table talks and the overthrow of communism, this prestigious public television conference will be held in a country in Central/Eastern Europe. The hosts of the INPUT conference are Telewizja Polska S.A. (TVP) and the city of Warsaw.

Among the 83 programs to be screened during the Warsaw INPUT conference at the Palace of Culture and Science are three produced for TVP.

Londyńczyczy” by Greg Zgliński and Maciej Migas and produced by Telemark is an outstanding contemporary series and first film story about the lives of the new wave of Polish emigrants in Great Britain. The main characters are people who dare change their lives and start from scratch overseas. They have different reasons for leaving Poland. They differ in terms of motivation, character and goals. Their stories create a mosaic of Polish lives in contemporary London. The complexity of plot threads accents the variety of experiences of modern-day émigrés in “Polish” London. The concept for the series and its protagonists came from the authors personal documentation. It is a fictional series, but is in large measure inspired by the experiences of young Poles in London.

The series has been broadcast by channel TVP 1.

“Doskonalsi” is a documentary film by Grzegorz Fedorowski about the marriage of Maria and Staszek. For him it is his second marriage, but five years ago the wedding was her first, and she wore a white bridal gown. They are very happy together and cannot imagine living alone. They have no housing problems, no troubles at work, difficult bosses, problems with unfulfilled ambitions, and they are not terrified by the perspective of bringing up children…Maria and Staszek are eighty years old. They live in a shared room at a public nursing home.

The film was produced for the documentary film department at channel TVP 1.

Pucuł i Grzechu” by Witold Górki, Jan Tomczak, and Wojtek Wojtowski is an animated series dedicated to teaching correct Polish. Each of the ten 45-second episodes uses a light, sometimes absurd, form to present one specific language error, the correct form, and a brief, humorous explanation of the error. To avoid using an excessively schoolmarmish tone, the series’ creators use a feigned diversion of attention from the heart of the matter. The films have been prepared as “how-to” guides: e.g. how to be successful in life, how to become an actor, how to travel by hitchhiking, or how to get rid of your boss. The absurdity of each situation is revealed together with the narrator’s commentary as well as the repeating catchphrase at the end. Popular actors and journalists provide the voices for the characters.

The series has been broadcast by channels TVP 1, TVP 2, and TVP Kultura.
