Acknowledgement for Londyńczycy (Londoners) Back to Index
TVP1’s campaign for the Londyńczycy series, which was qualified for showing at the international INPUT 2009 conference held in Warsaw in May, received an award in the Media Trendy competition for innovative press campaign.
The award-winning advertisement campaign was supervised by the Maxus media house which serves Polish Television. The campaign and its slogan “Great Britain, Great Hopes” were created in TVP’s new project encompassing not only the press but also unique ambient events, such as guard duty and changing of the guard under a replica of the Big Ben in Warsaw. The campaign lasted from 1 October until 13 November, 2008.
The innovative advertisement in the press included, among others, a special edition of the “Metro” daily newspaper. On the day of the first episode’s screening (23 October, 2008), all first page articles were printed in English. The journal’s second page contained the same articles in Polish, while the last page presented an explanation and an invitation for all those interested to watch the show. The surprise caused by such exceptional advertising had a great impact on readers and allowed them to feel for a moment like the protagonists of Londyńczycy – Polish people living in the capital of Great Britain.
Innovativeness is a characteristic of Londyńczycy . This series is the first ever film story inspired by the authentic adventures of the new Polish emigration on the British Isles. Its uniqueness is confirmed by the script which is based on real events observed among Poles in London by the screenwriters. The show’s originality was also duly appreciated by the international INPUT (International Public Television) organization, which qualified it to the agenda of this year’s INPUT conference, which will take place in the Palace of Culture and Science in Warsaw on 10-15 May.
During the conference, Polish Television will be represented not only by Londyńczycy but also by the animated educational series Pucuł and Grzechu as well as the documentary Doskonalsi.
This year’s edition of INPUT will provide its participants with 83 productions from 40 countries in the world. Additional conference events will be devoted to programmes for young people as well as television formats. INPUT is the largest international conference for public television in the world, hence the qualification of a programme to the agenda of the conference is always a great distinction for the producers and its creators. This year’s edition of INPUT is organized by TVP and the Capital City of Warsaw and for the first time in its 30-year history will be held in a Central-Eastern European country. The event is made even more significant by the fact that this year, Poland is celebrating the 20th anniversary of the Round Table Talks and the 20th anniversary of the collapse of communism.
The viewers have also expressed their approval of the series – each episode was watched on average by 3.4 million people. The show stayed on average at 25% in the 4+ group (according to TNS/OBOP). For this reason Londyńczycy will be seeing a second season – 16 new episodes have been planned for broadcasting starting in September this year.
