Carvin Eison
Carvin Eison is the owner of ImageWordSound LLC, a media production company, an Associate Professor of Communication at The College at Brockport, State University of New York, and the General Manager of Rochester Community Television, public access TV in Rochester, New York, USA.
Mr. Eison is currently in the final stages of post production for “Shadows of the Lynching Tree,” a new documentary film that explores the lingering effects of lynching on American culture. “Shadows” is a co-production with MDR – German public television, with funds from The Sundance Documentary Film Fund and PBS.
Mr. Eison has more than thirty years experience as a producer and director. In 2005 he directed and edited “July ’64, The Roots of Urban Unrest,” which aired nationwide on the PBS series, Independent Lens. In February 2006, Mr. Eison produced “Oatka Trail,” a dance performance film for award-winning choreographer Garth Fagan.
Mr. Eison is the recipient of many awards including the Eric Barnouw Award from the Organization of American Historians, SUNY Chancellor’s Award for Scholarship, Broadcast Education Association Award of Excellence, numerous Tellys and various other awards and honors. In 2005 Mr. Eison was nominated for two NYS Emmy Awards for Best Historic/Cultural Programming and Best Director.
Mr. Eison is a shopsteward for the international public television conference INPUT 2007/2008/2009, and has served as a grant reader for Independent Television Service and National Black Programming Consortium. He is a member of the board of directors of the Alliance for Community Media/North East.
