Get to know me through the Internet
Today anyone can create their own program and exist on the Internet. How has that influenced the way of presenting and receiving information? Is the World Wide Web a good place for ambitious productions? That is what the participants of the session “TV/Internet, Tomorrow ‘NOW’” wondered about.
Once only professionals created television programs. Now, neither first-rate equipment nor experience is needed to film your own mini production. “What’s worth asking is whether the clips made by amateurs aren’t more authentic. Maybe they’re the ones showing the true face of a given social group.” wondered Shopsteward Carvin Eison.
Are ambitious productions worth less if they can be accessed by a wider audience on the Internet? The creators of the Internet document “Gaza/Sderot- Life in Spite of Everything” convinced that it is not so. “We wanted to present the conflict between Israel and Palestine through people’s stories. The very layout of the site is symbolic; it’s divided into two parts with a border. On each side of the border our character’s live out their lives. We searched for a long time for a way to present both sides of the conflict. As it turns out, placing this project on the Internet turned out to be a huge success.” explained Serge Gordey and Arik Bernstein.
It’s difficult to say whether the Internet will ever supplant television. One thing is for sure, today it’s its perfect supplement.
