Karen Michael

Karen Michael has been working for La Sept/Arte since its beginning.
She started her career as assistant to the Head of the Youth Department and has worked on several magazines such as Megamix (co-produced with Channel 4), Passenger (co-produced with BBC), and Dynamo.
In 1992 she participated in the creation of ARTE’s Thema (numerous special theme evenings dealing with society, history, politics, arts, and entertainment), In 10 years she has co-produced with international partners, acquired and pre-bought hundred of hours of documentary fi lms.
In 2003 Karen joined the newly created Arts and Culture Department and produced cultural documentaries. She has also launched L’Art & la Manière, a series of programmes that follow leading European contemporary artists at work, in an elaboration of the creative process.
Until recently she worked on a once-monthly socio-cultural debate (License to Think) with prominent International fi gures – Salman Rushdie, Amartya Sen, Peter Sloterdjik, and Pedro Almodovar, which will be followed up by a documentary series dedicated to contemporary philosophers.
Today she’s in charged of “Metropolis,” Arte’s European cultural magazine, a “biography.“
Karen is also a regular shop steward participating at Eurodoc, Africadoc, Rencontres de Saint-Laurent, and Lussas.
