Promoting an international union
During a special session, the participants at the INPUT conference discussed the subject of co-production as international cooperation.
Co-production is a form of co-financing a joint production and technical cooperation while producing a film. European countries have used co-production as a strategy to make films with relatively high budgets and access to many television markets. There exists no country that hasn’t been involved in making a film or television production this way. Maybe countries such as the USA are financially self-efficient, but for countries such as Slovenia, co-production is a necessity. The European Union uses the Euroimages fund to support this type of undertaking. It offers 22 million euros yearly to be divided. It’s an attempt to defend the European television markets from being flooded by cheap, American movies. Co-production is also important for countries that want to become known on the world-wide television market. For them, such a form of cooperation is a necessity.
